Cruisin’ Around (Bahamas, 2012)

Nassau!

Cool Carribean waters with my grand-fai

My first cruise was with some extended family on my mom’s side, including 2 cousins, grandparents, uncle and aunt, and a great-aunt (nani, nana, mama, mami, dadi). We left from Baltimore harbor, where my cousins are and a popular vacation spot for us, and headed to Cape Canaveral, the Bahamas, and back on the Carnival Pride.

The cruise itself was a pretty cool experience and I took full advantage of the pools (water + me = <3) and unlimited buffets (food + me = <3). I mostly hung out with my 2 cousins and my sister, all of which were 5 or younger, but still had some fun playing Just Dance, interactive in-person games, and having a night where we ate dinner and played outside parent-free. I wish I was a little older (or more outgoing to be honest) to enjoy some of the other activities or make friends, but still had lots of fun. Side note, but I remember the “fancy” restaurant had some good food, a funny butter tray that made my oldest cousin laugh like crazy, and an indian chef who cooked up some indian food for us.

After an hour walk at Cape Canaveral, the next day our whole group disembarked at Nassau, a large city in the Bahamas that is on a different island than the main Bahamas. We took lots of pictures and headed to a market area to buy some knick knacks (with some negotiating) and then headed to the beach. We also drove past the famous Atlantis Hotel, which was HUGE, even from a distance.

Our last stop was the beach to play in the Carribean waters and build some classic sandcastles. It was a standard day at the beach with some gorgeous water. As we headed back, I remembered we negotiated our driver’s price down a lot, but then tipped more than we negotiated! I guess it was about wanting to pay on our own terms—weird!

Overview

  • Nassau was so pretty and had some extravagant hotels
  • Beaches are fun but outside of the color of the water, any good beach is a good beach
  • Always negotiate prices on vacation, but if you enjoyed their service, tip them and gladly undo your work!
