Cozumel!

Our Cozumel adventure was also part of our Carnival Freedom route and we got here soon after visiting Grand Cayman Island. It was another 1-day expedition
We started at a center where you could swim with manatees, also known as sea cows (which is kind of rude, all things considered). We got into our wetsuits and got into the water next to 2-3 large manatees. We got to pet/kiss them and they were really cute in a gentle giant kind of way (no pictures sadly because of the wetsuit and price gouging from the photographer there). Side note, they were also really quite fat, which just added to the cuteness.
We then headed to a park area in the forested part of Cozumel. I wanted to zipline, and we convinced my 7-year-old sister, Riya, to join me on a zipline course above the trees with the sea in the distance. It was really beautiful, but a little stressful because it was our first time ziplining on a real course. The stopping mechanism was really abrupt and there were storm clouds in the distance (which freaked out Riya because of her astraphobia, the fear of storms), but we made the most of it and got down right before the course closed for lightning.
While walking back to the ship, we saw a pharmacy where you could buy prescription-grade painkillers and antibiotics over the counter. I didn’t understand why the place was packed, but looking back, that says a lot about Western medicine.
Takeaways
- Cozumel has some really cool nature and forests with unique vegetation to explore
- Sea cows are super cute and have long eyelashes (wow they’re exactly like me!)
- Percocet is probably Mexico’s #1 export in the tourism industry
